Covid Vaccine

COVID vaccine in Silver Spring, MD

We know that many Marylanders still need to get the COVID vaccine. It’s one of the best ways to protect ourselves and those around us from COVID-19, and it’s the best chance for getting back to normal. Of course, we also understand that there is a lot of information (and misinformation out there) and that you may want to know more about the vaccine before you get it. Here at Exceptional Primary & Preventive Healthcare, we want to provide our patients with the information they need to make informed decisions regarding their health and safety.

Who can get the COVID-19 vaccine?

The CDC recommends that everyone 12 years and older get the COVID-19 vaccine. We are making it easier for our patients to get the vaccine right here at our Silver Spring, MD, practice. We want the vaccine to be fully accessible to everyone.
The vaccine is free of charge and requires two separate doses given about 21 days (Pfizer) or 28 days (Moderna) apart, depending on which vaccine you get.

What can I expect when I get the COVID-19 vaccine?

You will need to come in twice to get fully vaccinated. Remember that to be protected you will need to get both doses and, even then, it takes up to two weeks after the second dose to build immunity. This means that during this time it is still possible to contract the coronavirus. You must be still wearing your mask and practicing social distancing during this time.

As with most vaccines, it is common to experience some side effects after getting the COVID-19 vaccine. The side effects are a sign that your body is building up immunity. Most side effects are mild and common side effects include,

  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Arm pain at the injection site
  • Muscle pain
  • Fever
  • Chills

Two weeks after being fully vaccinated you can begin to do a lot of the activities and things that you weren’t able to do during the pandemic; however, since we are still learning more about the vaccine and its efficacy it’s still important that you keep your distance and continue practicing good hygiene.
